  • Title: Student Organization Outstanding Positional Leader Award

Ruth Oliwe, a PhD Candidate in STEM Education, is from Nigeria and passionate about representing the interest of international students at the Ohio State University (OSU). As President of International Friendships, Inc. (IFI) student organization, Ruth has transformed the organization through exceptional event planning, community building, and cultural exchange initiatives. Under her leadership, Ruth maintained the legacy of organizing and hosting IFI’s International Welcome Party, which is recognized as an OSU Signature Event, drawing over 700 attendees annually. She spearheaded innovative programs like the African Richness cultural event and student-led initiatives such as “Paint and Sip” and “Finishing the Semester Stronger,” which provided students with opportunities to relax, network and develop professionally. Ruth’s proactive leadership was instrumental in amplifying the visibility of IFI as an organization committed to serving international students and making them feel at home here at OSU and in Columbus. This is shown in IFI’s recognition in WOSU-PBS's “Celebrating Connections in Ohio”. She also secured IFI’s first office space in almost a decade, contributing to its long-term sustainability. Through her vision and dedication, Ruth has created a legacy of friendship, support, and cross-cultural understanding for international students.
