Battle Against Hunger

The Battle Against Hunger is a month-long program during November aimed at bringing awareness to issues surrounding food insecurity through food drives, service and educational events. You can get involved by hosting a food drive during November and sharing your results with Pay It Forward, or by participating in one of our events throughout the month.

2024 Battle Against Hunger Event Schedule: 

Learn and engage through programs centered on food insecurity throughout the month of November! Explore opportunities to attend educational programs, engage through service and contribute to our food drive. 

November 1-30: Want to make a difference to end food insecurity? Donate to Pay it Forward's monthlong food drive, benefitting Mid-Ohio Food Collective. Donation drop boxes will be located at the Ohio Union Info desk, as well as the front desks of Morrill Tower, Drackett Tower, and Park-Stradley. If you aren't able to reach a drop box, donation drop-off can also be arranged directly with Pay It Forward!  Any nonperishable items are accepted. but donations of the most requested canned food (chili, fruit, tuna, vegetables, meat, soup, and peanut butter) are especially valued! Individuals can contribute, and student groups can also sign up to participate to win a prize for the most items collected. More information about group registration to come. Donations will be accepted Friday, November 1-Saturday, November 30.

Monday, November 4, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Educational session #1 led by Pay It Forward. Register here!

Tuesday, November 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Suzanne M. Scharer Room (Ohio Union): Educational session #2 led by Buckeye Food Alliance. The Buckeye Food Alliance (BFA) is a Student Wellness Center program that provides access to food and personal items for all students, faculty, and staff with a BuckID. The mission of BFA to reduce food insecurity on Ohio State's campus, so students don't have to worry about their next meal. BFA will be presenting the resources they offer, future plans to expand services, and current volunteers will share their experiences with the organization. Register here!

Tuesday, November 19, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Tanya Rutner Hartman Room (Ohio Union): Educational session #3 led by Dr. Jill Clark. Join this interactive session to engage with the concept of healthy food access and what communities can do to increase access for residents. Register here!
