Battle Against Hunger
The Battle Against Hunger is a month-long program during November aimed at bringing awareness to issues surrounding food insecurity through food drives, service and educational events. You can get involved by hosting a food drive during November and sharing your results with Pay It Forward, or by participating in one of our events throughout the month.

2023 Battle Against Hunger Schedule:
Learn and engage through programs centered on food insecurity throughout the month of November! Explore opportunities to attend educational programs, engage through service and contribute to our food drive.

Food Drive
We are specifically looking to collect the following items to donate to our community partner Feed the Kids Columbus (but will accept all donations):
- Granola Bars (please avoid nuts; specifically peanuts and tree nuts)
- Fruit Snacks (Mott’s Preferred)
- Nutri-Grain Bars
- Goldfish (Snack Size bags)
- Pretzels (Snack Size bags)
- Applesauce Squeezers/pouches
Student Organizations
Your organization can register for our food drive, which will run through November. We will give your organization directions on how to keep track of total donations. At the end of the month, your contribution per member will be calculated (so don’t worry if you have a small organization!) and the student organization with the highest contribution will be awarded. Educational Programs
- November 7, 7-8 p.m.
- Join Pay It Forward members for this session that will include a discussion centering around food insecurity, its real-world statistics, impacting factors, local supporters and nonprofits, food apartheid and campus resources.

- November 14, 7-8 p.m.
- Join Pay It Forward members for this session that will include a discussion centering around food insecurity, its real-world statistics, impacting factors, local supporters and nonprofits, food apartheid and campus resources.

- November 21, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
- Dr. Irene Hatsu will be speaking on the health impacts that food insecurity can have on various populations. Her research interests are in food and nutrition security as it relates to health in vulnerable populations, nutrition and mental health in youth.

- November 28, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
- Dr. Michelle Kaiser will be joining us to discuss her work and research, which is centered around community food security. This interdisciplinary framework allows for collaborative and innovative research alongside community and university partners utilizing Kaiser’s background in social work and public health.

Service Opportunities
- November 19, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
- Enjoy brunch (first come first served) and work to pack snack packs for our partner Feed The Kids Columbus. We will be hearing from the Director of Feed the Kids Columbus, along with members of the Feed The Kids Columbus Board of Directors. This will be a great event to work to package snack packs and get to know other students in the OSU community. Participants are encouraged to bring donations, but it is not an expectation.
