Get Involved Where You Live 11am-Noon Curl Viewpoint |
Curious how to get involved on campus in the residence halls? Learn how getting involved where you live can help you connect with peers, grow as a person, and learn transferable skills to benefit your future. We’ll discuss the opportunities available through Housing and Residence Education, provide tips for reflection to do before applying to opportunities, and sharing the ways in which you can grow as a leader through these opportunities. But We Have Always Done it this Way!: Revaluating Organizational Traditions and Practices 3-4pm Senate Chamber (Ohio Union) |
Ever sit in a planning meeting, and someone says, "But we have always done it this way"? That mindset alone can stunt organizational growth and innovation. It can also perpetuate behaviors and traditions that might not benefit your members. In this workshop, we will discuss how to assess your organization's traditions and practices, how to combat harmful behaviors, and re-imagine traditions into healthy celebrations. At the end of this session, participants can start to develop a roadmap to increase a sense of belonging in their organization while aligning practices with their values. Making a World of Difference: Exploring Multicultural Leadership 6:30-7:30pm Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions Room (Ohio Union) |
Cultural context shapes leadership practices in many different ways around the world. This session will combine an overview of work by multicultural leadership author Juana Bordas and conversations with local and national leaders to explore differing perspectives on what it means to be a leader. The session will provide participants an opportunity to think about how their identities shape how they work with others, and to learn from real-world leaders who incorporate inclusive, multicultural practices in their everyday leadership practices. Culturally Conscious Leadership in Community Development 7:30-8:30pm VIRTUAL |
This workshop explores the different styles of leadership that are found in culturally-conscious community engagement. Students will engage in personal introspection and critical thinking activities to examine what leadership style plays to their natural strengths and empowers them to give back to their communities. They will also be given strategies on how to mobilize others according to common interests while considering a wide spectrum of intersectional identities. The session gives particular emphasis to anti-saviorism work, advocacy, conflict-resolution, grassroots empowerment, and the ladder of citizen participation model. A member of the class gift council will offer a guided tour around campus, exploring the history of class gifts and philanthropy at Ohio State.
